Getting around safely in Montana in the winter is a skill. Road conditions are unpredictable. Besides snow and icy conditions, there are many other combinations that are ever-changing throughout each day. Having the right equipment and tools for these conditions is essential . Having the skills and training is a plus for overcoming obstacles throughout your drive. Wildlife plays a big part in those obstacles. With a large number of big game animals migrating across our paths, heightened awareness and skill are essential in saving not only the animal’s life but human life as well. And adding winter road conditions to this situation is often the case. Studies show approximately 3000 crashes each year are with wildlife and 23% of those lead to human fatalities. As the owner of a transport company, I recognize that those skills are a must for our drivers. Because we are potentially driving in winter weather 9 months out of our year here in Montana, safety is a must for success.
